One of the most acclaimed years for Broadway was the 2003-2004 season. For that entire year, a film production crew came on board to cover numerous behind the scenes footage at the making of these shows. The documentary is entitled SHOW BUSINESS: THE ROAD TO BROADWAY. It was released 10 years ago (in 2010)

It follows 4 highlighted new musicals from that season on their road from readings and workshops, to rehearsals, to previews, to opening night, and all the way up to the Tony Awards. These shows were Avenue Q and WICKED The Musical (which are still playing to packed houses today here in NYC). In addition, the documentary also follows 2 shows that flopped but ended up getting a cult following. These shows were Caroline, or Change and the controversial Taboo the musical.

Following watching this documentary and if you really want to even learn more about new shows that aim for Broadway and also if you’re a fan of the short lived TV show Smash, join us on our BE A SMASH Walking Tour.

How amazing is this documentary?!!!
