The wait is over. Tune in tonight at 10pm on NBC for the world premiere of the new Musical Drama series Rise.

The series is inspired by a 2013 Non-Fiction book and inspired by a true story of these young students in a High School drama program who come alive under a passionate teacher and family man whose dedication to the program shocks the entire community. The company this teacher also puts on in the series is a production of one of Broadway’s very own Tony winning Best Musicals…. Spring Awakening Broadway. Yup, you’ll be hearing a lot of familiar songs from that show by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater along with covers and new original material from numerous Broadway composers and acclaimed singer/songwriters. It’s basically Glee meets Friday Night Lights.

The show is produced by Emmy Winner Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights) and Tony winner Jeffrey Seller (Broadway’s Rent, Avenue Q, In The Heights, and Hamilton: An American Musical) and will feature an exciting cast led by Auli’i Cravalho (the voice of the title character from Disney’s Moana), Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother), Emmy and Oscar nominee (who is no stranger to Musical Theatre) Rosie Perez, and a full lineup of newbies and familiar faces from stage and screen.

Who is excited?

“This is a show for everybody.”
