BREAKING NEWS: Get ready to COME BACK TO MY GARDEN as Lucy Simon and Marsha Norman’s legendary musical adaptation of The Secret Garden is heading it’s way back to Broadway next season.
This new production will be all new featuring direction and choreography by Tony Award winner Warren Carlyle.
THE SECRET GARDEN is based on the legendary 1911 novella by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Set in the early 20th century, it follows a 10-year-old orphaned girl sent to Yorkshire to live with her isolated aunt and uncle. During her stay, the girl discovers an old garden. With the help of a young Gardener, they bring new life to it. The musical features some of the most beloved songs including A BIT OF EARTH, COME TO MY GARDEN, LIFT ME UP, and HOW COULD I EVER KNOW.
The show originally premiered in 1989 at the Virginia Stage Company playing the Wells Theatre in Northfolk, Virginia. It did so well, the production was then was moved to Broadway playing the St. James Theatre in 1991 running for 709 performances. It was nominated for 6 Tony Awards in 1991 winning 3 including Best Performance By A Featured Actress in a Musical for Daisy Eagan (who also made history as 2nd youngest female actress ever to win a Tony).

THE SECRET GARDEN later went on to be performed around the world with community, school, regional productions, as well as concert productions. In 2005, a concert production was put together in celebration of World AIDS Day at the Manhattan Center Studios Grand Ballroom. It featured Laura Benanti, Steven Pasquale, Will Chase, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Max von Essen, and more.
