ARE YOU THERE?! The cult classic rock opera bare: the musical is heading to the big screen. Tony nominees Hillary Butorac Weaver and Janet Billig Rich will produce the film along with Tony nominated director and the genius behind the vision of BARE’s original stage production Kristin Hanggi (Broadway’s Rock of Ages) will direct this film version (as well as do the screenplay).

The musical tells the story of two gay teenage boys that fall in love and face struggles, pressure, and intensity at a private Catholic boarding school. It features a score by Jon Hartmere and the late Damon Intrabartolo (who also wrote the book of the musical).

BARE had it’s world premiere in 2000 at Hudson Theatre in Los Angeles before making it’s way Off Broadway to the American Theater of Actors in 2004. It went on to become a worldwide hit with productions everywhere including Toronto, Sydney, San Diego, the Philippines, Cardiff, Seoul, Chicago, Brighton and Austin. The show was recently revived Off Broadway back in 2012 at New World Stages which the production was well known for incorporate several addition new songs written for the show written by Hartmere, Intrabartolo, and Lynne Shankel. The 2012 revival was created due to numerous news reports of young teenagers dealing with bullying, the movement to legalize gay marriage, and an occurrence of LGBTQ suicides in the years following the 2004 production.

Who is excited to experience BARE like never before?
