BREAKING NEWS: Sir Cameron Mackintosh has received some backlash over the recent news of Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s legendary smash hit The Phantom of the Opera reducing its Orchestra Pit when the show relaunches its inaugural London company later this year. The legendary producer took to the press to defend the decision.

As previously mentioned, when PHANTOM reopens at the newly renovated and refurbished Her Majesty’s Theatre this Summer, THE MUSIC OF THE NIGHT will be heard a little different. The amount of its usual 27 musicians were dropped to now 14 in the pit due to ongoing COVID-19 safety precautions. Also, it was to give the production a fresh new change (since the company will have a brand new physical version of Maria Bjornson‘s original scenic design). However when the Broadway production reopens, the show will still be performed with the traditional 27 piece Orchestra in the pit.

PHANTOM will re-haunt London’s Her Majesty’s Theatre beginning June 25th, 2021. The Broadway and various companies will relaunch later this year.
