BREAKING NEWS: Grammy and Tony winner Cyndi Lauper is set to compose her next big Broadway show which will be a musical adaptation of the 1988 romantic comedy Working Girl. It will also feature a book by Kim Rosenstock (writer of the smash hit FOX series New Girl).

WORKING GIRL tells the story of an ambitious secretary (originally played on screen by Melanie Griffith) who is fighting for respect on the dangerous and sometimes sexiest area of Wall Street.

The original film’s music was written by Carly Simon and featured the iconic song LET THE RIVER RUN (which won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1989. No word if Simon will also be involved with the production.

WORKING GIRL THE MUSICAL will mark as Lauper’s 2nd musical as a composer since earning critical acclaim for her still running smash hit Kinky Boots on Broadway (which she made history as the first Female ever to win the Tony for Best Original Score).
