Each year, over 1,000 people audition to be cast in a show on Broadway. However usually less than 10% are hired. For many people who go into the room, they all dream of wanting to becoming the next big thing by performing their rendition of a popular Broadway song. Here’s a little tip, the casting directors usually get tired easily of hearing the same song over and over again. They do not want to see you do an interpretation of that acclaimed Broadway star. Also, they want to hear songs that most people rarely sing in auditions. Here’s a list of the most popular overused songs from men and women in Musical Theatre.

You are not the next Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, Sutton Foster, Christian Borle, Jonathan Groff, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jeremy Jordan, Laura Benanti, Ra?l E. Esparza, Ben Platt, Harvey Fierstein, Mandy Patinkin, Patti LuPone, Bette Midler, Kelli O’Hara, etc, etc, etc…. THEY ARE WHO THEY ARE!!! YOU ARE AN ORIGINAL!!!!

It is great to call someone the next so and so as a compliment because they blew you away but don’t copy them.

?DO NOT? lists ? Overdone Songs and Monologues

NOTE: I am receiving large numbers of requests for feedback on audition pieces. My schedule no longer allows me to respond to every request in a timely manner. I will still try to respond to reque?
