In honor of the late Michael Freidman, here is footage of the show he was well known for in the Theater world. A high energy rock musical comedy retelling of the story of our 7th President of the United States himself…. This is the original cast of the cult hit musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson on Broadway. It also featured a book by Alex Timbers.
BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON was originally conceived in 2006 by New York-based experimental company Les Freres Corbusier at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and later workshopped at the New 42nd Street Studios, New York.
The show had it’s official world premiere in 2008 in Culver City, California at the Kirk Douglas Theatre, produced by Center Theatre Group starring Benjamin Walker in the title role.
Following the success of it’s California run, the show made it’s way Off Broadway at The Public Theater. It was done there first as a concert in 2009 before doing an official production in 2010 and became a huge word of mouth show.
From there, the show went on to play Broadway’s Bernard B Jacobs Theatre in 2011. Even though it received positive reviews, the show failed to build popularity on Broadway running for only 120 performances. It went on to receive 2 Tony nominations in 2011 for Best Book of a Musical (for Alex Timbers) and Best Scenic Design of a Musical (for Donyale Werle)
Today, productions of BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON are happening in schools, community, and regional theaters everywhere.
