BREAKING NEWS: Broadway favorite Isaac Powell (Broadway's Once On This Island and was appearing as "Tony" in the current abridged revival of West Side Story before COVID hit) has been tapped to join the cast of the highly anticipated film adaptation of the Tony, Grammy, and Olivier Award winning smash hit Dear Evan Hansen.

For the new film, the performer will be playing High School jock "Rhys", a newly created character which will expand the story (since the usual stage production is an intimate 7 piece Ensemble cast). It will also mark as Powell's film debut. He joins a previously announced lineup consisting of….

Ben Platt reprising his Tony winning performance as the title role of "Evan Hansen",

Golden Globe nominee Kaitlin Dever as "Zoe Murphy",

Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe winner Julianne Moore as "Heidi Hansen",

Oscar nominee Amy Adams as "Cynthia Murphy",

Colton Ryan reprising the role of "Connor Murphy" (a part he previously understudied in the Broadway production),

Acclaimed actress and singer Amandla Stenberg as "Alana Beck",

Acclaimed actor and comedian Nik Dodani as "Jared Kleinman",

Danny Pino as "Larry" (who is now updated as the stepfather of "The Murphy Family"),

Broadway favorite Demarius Copes as the newly created character "Oliver" (a classmate of "Evan" and best friend of "Zoe"),

and

Broadway favorite Gerald Caesar as a TBD new character name that is also a classmate of "Evan".

The DEAR EVAN HANSEN film is shooting right now out in Atlanta, Georgia. With the filming, there are extreme COVID-19 safety precautions as well with the set.

The film is set to be released from Universal Pictures, produced by Marc Platt and Adam Siegel, and directed by Stephen Chbosky. It will feature some of the beloved songs from the musical (obviously WAVING THROUGH A WINDOW, FOR FOREVER, & YOU WILL BE FOUND), plus new songs created specifically for the movie by Pasek and Paul.

The stage version of DEAR EVAN HANSEN is expecting to be one of the many shows to return when Live Theater is back. It's expecting to continue to play at Broadway's Music Box Theatre, in London's West End at the Noel Coward Theatre, and on tour across America.

Congrats Issac!!!!
