RISE & SHINE BROADWAY FANS! We are only 6 days away till Broadway’s biggest night of the year, the 71st Annual Tony Awards. We have more exciting Broadway powerhouse performances coming your way on OUR TOP 30 TONY AWARDS COUNTDOWN.

At # 6, we take a trip to Italy in the year in 1950 where a sightseeing tour between Mother and her disabled Daughter turns upside down. A local young Italian man falls in love with the daughter (with the mother testing the romance). This is The Light in the Piazza (musical). It features a score by Adam Guettel (the son of Mary Rodgers and Grandson of Richard Rodgers) and a book by Craig Lucas. It’s based on the novella of the same name by Elizabeth Spencer.

From the 2005 telecast, Tony winners Victoria Clark as “Margret Johnson” and Kelli O’Hara as “Clara Johnson” along with Tony nominee Matthew Morrison as “Fabrizio Naccarelli” and the cast perform the show’s opening number taking us on adventure to a world in Italy filled with STATUES AND STORIES.

Following 2 acclaimed sold out runs in Seattle and Chicago, THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA arrived on Broadway at Lincoln Center Theater in 2005 playing the Vivian Beaumont Theatre for 540 performances total. The show was nominated for 11 Tony Awards that year winning 6 including Best Leading Actress in a Musical (for Victoria Clark) and Best Original Score (for Adam Guettel).

During it’s Broadway run, the show was captured on film for the Award winning PBS series, Live from Lincoln Center in 2006 (towards the end of it’s Broadway run). The filmed performance featured Victoria Clark as “Margret Johnson”, Katie Rose Clarke (in her Broadway Debut) as “Clara Johnson”, and Aaron Lazar as “Fabrizio Naccarelli”.

Isn’t this musical so beautiful and soaring?
