For those who may not know, BROADWAY BAKES happens at Schmackary's. It's an annual event the theater community does prior to the Tony Awards. For a whole week, some of your favorite Broadway stars take time out from their 8 shows a week to work behind the shop's counter selling cookies and tasty sweets in raising money for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. HAVE YOU HEARD?: Last night, a sold out crowd at the Broadway production of Anastasia The Musical was treated to a very special ONCE IN A LIFETIME performance.
At the curtain call, the show’s leading lady Christy Altomare (who plays the title character) and the legendary Liz Callaway (the original singing voice of “Anastasia” for the 1997 Animated film) performing a duet version of the musical’s Oscar nominated theme song JOURNEY TO THE PAST live on the stage of the Broadhurst Theatre,
Altomare and Callaway originally performed the duet of JOURNEY TO THE PAST this past June at the Broadway Princess Party concert at Feinstein?s/54 Below which went viral on social media. Because the duet got huge and big following, both performers met up in a recording studio earlier this summer to record the duet as a single which will be available to download on iTunes and Spotify beginning September 28th, 2018. A music video will be released as well.
FUN FACT: Christy Altomare has idolized Liz Callaway since she was a very young girl. Her first Broadway show was the original production of Cats the Musical with Callaway playing the role of “Grizabella The Glamour Cat”. A few weeks later, Altomare fell in love with Callaway even more when she saw the original 1997 Animated film version of ANASTASIA in the Movie Theaters. JOURNEY TO THE PAST even became her go-to audition song as well. In addition, during her 2012 Broadway debut as “Sophie” in Mamma Mia!, Altomare had Callaway’s dressing room. FULL CIRCLE!!!

Last night, FANASTASIAS got to witness a once in a lifetime performance from the stage of the Broadhurst Theatre. At the curtain call of Anastasia The Musical, the sold out crowd was treated to a very special performance of the musical’s Oscar nominated theme song JOURNEY TO THE PAST featuring our girl Christy Altomare (the original Broadway “Anastasia”) and the legendary Liz Callaway (the original 1997 animated film’s singing voice of “Anastasia). Tissues out please!!

At today’s matinee of Anastasia The Musical, the company wanted to do something to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the beloved 1997 Animated film version many of us FANASTASIAS grew up.
For an encore on the stage of the Broadhurst Theatre, the show’s leading lady Christy Altomare took center stage to perform the Oscar nominated song that brings down the house every night at the end of Act 1 JOURNEY TO THE PAST synched with the actual scene from the film projected on the show’s LED screen used to create the sets in the show. How spectacular is this?!!!
