Last night, Beautiful – The Carole King Musical’s current leading lady Chilina Kennedy celebrated her 1,000th performance ever as Grammy winning singer/songwriter Carole King. During the curtain call at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, the Broadway company surprised her with flowers and balloons along with a speech by leading man Evan Todd who plays King’s collaborator / 1st husband Gerry Goffin.
Following her triumphant Broadway Debut as “Mary Magdalene” in the recent revival of Jesus Christ Superstar, Canadian native Chillina Kennedy first auditioned for BEAUTIFUL back in 2014 while she was pregnant with her now 4 year old son. After her final audition traveling back to Canada from NYC, Kennedy went into labor. She found out 3 days after giving birth that she booked the job. From there, Kennedy went on to replace the show’s original Tony winning star Jessie Mueller. She has been with the Broadway company ever since earning rave reviews. In addition, Kennedy previously took a small leave of absence from the New York company to join the cast of the National Tour of BEAUTIFUL playing the role in her hometown of Toronto.

Original Newsies leading lady and WICKED The Musical favorite Kara Lindsay is set to join the Broadway cast of Beautiful – The Carole King Musical next week at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. From September 12th, 2017 for a limited run till New Year’s Eve (December 31st, 2017), Lindsay will be taking on the role of acclaimed singer/songwritter “Cynthia Weil”. The role is temporary currently played by understudy Sara King who was taking over from Jessica Keenan Wynn who departed last month to go film the upcoming musical sequel to MAMMA MIA!.
In addition, Chilina Kennedy (who took a summer hiatus from the Broadway cast to join the touring cast for the Toronto engagement) is set to return to Broadway cast in the lead role of Grammy winning singer / songwritter “Carole King” on the very same day as Lindsay. The show’s current leading lady Abby Mueller (original touring “Carole” and sister of the show’s original Tony winning “Carole” Jessie Mueller) will play her final performance this Sunday, September 10th, 2017.

SISTER ACT OF NATURAL WOMEN! Starting March 7th, 2017, Abby Mueller is set to join the Broadway production of the Award winning smash hit Beautiful – The Carole King Musical as the new “Carole King” for a limited 6 month run at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.
Current leading lady Chilina Kennedy will play her final performance on March 5th, 2017 before taking a leaf of absence from the NY production. She will be going on to play the role in her hometown of Canada with the show’s upcoming Toronto production set to run at the Ed Mirvish Theatre for a strictly limited engagement from June 27th, 2017 till August 20th, 2017. Kennedy is expecting to return to the Broadway production at a later date TBA.
For Abby Mueller, she is no stranger to the world of BEAUTIFUL after previously originating the role on the First National Tour. Most of all, Abby’s sister is Jessie Mueller who originated the role of the Grammy winning singer/songwriter on Broadway earning her a Tony Award in 2014 for Best Leading Actress in A Musical.
