OMIGOD BROADWAY FANS! The holiday festivities starting with The 90th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is already in 10 days. Our TOP 20 BROADWAY AT THE MACY’S PARADE continues playing you the best of Musical performances from the NBC and) CBS telecasts.
At #10 on our countdown, we meet the most beloved popular Valley girl turned Harvard Lawyer ever. This is of course the musical adaptation of the hit novel and film Legally Blonde.
From the 2007 NBC telecast, Tony nominee Laura Bell Bundy as Elle Woods, Haven Burton, Tracy Jai Edwards, and Asmeret Ghebremichael as her 3 Delta Nu BFF’s, and the company catch the Dean of Harvard Law in Harold Square, beg him to let Elle get accepted into the school, and win back her boyfriend in the showstopping number WHAT YOU WANT.
Legally Blonde the Musical hit Broadway in 2007 playing the Palace Theatre for 625 performances. It then continued to tour across America, played London’s West End winning the Olivier Awards for Best New Musical. Today, the show continues to be performed in schools, community, and regional theatres around the world.
FUN FACT: During it’s Broadway run, LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL was filmed live and aired on MTV in the Fall of 2017. There was a contest where if you showed off your best “pink” attire, you won tickets to the filmed performance (which was hosted by girls from The Hills) where you wore all “Pink” to the show.. Following the success of the MTV filmed performance, the relationship between the show and the channel continued with a reality show that helped casted a rising star to be Laura Bell Bundy’s replacement as Elle Woods entitled LEGALLY BLONDE: THE SEARCH FOR ELLE WOODS. The winner was South Carolina actress Bailey Hanks. Hanks remained with the show till it’s Broadway closing. Several of the runner up actresses who also auditioned to be Elle on the series have all went on to even better Broadway accomplishments including Celina Carvajal now named Lena Hall (Tony winner for HEDWIG on Broadway), Rachel Potter (Broadway’s The Adaams Family, the revival of Evita, and later a runner up on The X Factor), Lauren Zakrin (later went on the tour to understudy Becky Gulsvig as Elle, Broadway’s closing Sherrie in Rock of Ages, and now appearing in The Great Comet), Cassie Okenka (currently in School of Rock the Musical), and more).
ANOTHER FUN FACT: This performance from the Macy’s Parade, the cast was wearing their show T-Shirts instead of props. Around that time, Broadway shows were effected by the Stagehands Union Strike. Many shows including LEGALLY BLONDE was shut down for a few days.
Let’s give the cast a lot of SNAPS!!!
