Yesterday, PBS continues the best of the performing arts with its #PBSForTheArts series with a filmed performance of a recent West End revival of Anton Chekhov’s legendary masterpiece Uncle Vanya. Filmed at London’s Harold Pinter Theatre, this production was playing to packed houses but was abruptly shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However this past Summer 2020, the company all reunited for this special filmed presentation made for television.

Under the direction of Ian Rickson, this new version of UNCLE VANYA features an incredible cast that brings Chekhov’s masterpiece featuring the drama, portraying life at the turn of the 20th century filled with tumultuous frustration, dark humor and hidden passions. It’s all updated by Tony Award nominee Conor McPherson. The cast itself is led by….

Toby Jones as the title role
Richard Armitage as “Astrov”,
Rosalind Eleazar as “Yelena”,
Aimee Lou Wood as “Sonya”,
Anna Calder Marshall as “Nana”,
Dearbhla Molloy as “Mariya”,
Roger Allam as “Serebryakov”,
and
Peter Wight as “Telegin”.
