We got more Hairspray throwbacks going on right now as we are getting hyped for Hairspray Live in just 40 minutes (Preshow in 10).

On January 4th, 2009 was a bittersweet and emotional day as Hairspray played it’s 2,672nd and final Broadway performance total at the Neil Simon Theatre. For the closing night, it’s Tony winning original stars Harvey Fierstein (who is giving an encore performance in tonight’s live presentation) and Marissa Jaret Winokur returned to reprise their roles and brought out all HAIRSPRAY alumni cast members from the audience to come up and join in the final chorus to YOU CAN’T STOP THE BEAT. Plus Fierstein gave an emotional final curtain call speech.

HAIRSPRAY is still missed on the Great White Way. There’s already rumors that the musical might return to Broadway if this live presentation does well.
