ZERO TO HERO!!! Tony winner Alan Menken just announced that he is in the works of developing a full stage adaptation of the Disney’s Hercules (which recently celebrated it’s 20th Anniversary since it was first released in Theatres).

HERCULES is based on the Greek Mythology legend of the hero who is the son of Zeus and Hera. The film featured the voices of Tate Donovan as “Hercules”, Tony nominee Susan Egan as “Megara”. Danny DeVito as “Philoctetes”, the scene stealing performance of James Woods as “Hades”, and more. In addition, Tony winner Roger Bart provided the singing voice of “Hercules”, The film was nominated for an Oscar in 1997for Best Original Song (for the film’s signature anthem GO THE DISTANCE).

FUN FACT: The NYC Premiere of HERCULES took place in the New Amsterdam Theatre (right before The Lion King – Musical opened on Broadway). To celebrate, Disney presented an Electrical Parade through Times Square featuring all the characters from the film which all the lights of NYC were shut down for 20 minutes.

Nothing has been announced officially yet about the brave heroic hit but let’s pray it will happen real soon.
