BREAKING NEWS: BROADWAY HERE SHE COMES!! American Idol favorite and Smash star Katherine McPhee is finally making her REAL Broadway Debut in the Tony and Grammy nominated smash hit Waitress the Musical taking on the lead role of pregnant pie maker “Jenna”. She will begin her run on April 10th, 2018 and will play a strictly limited stint through June 17th, 2018 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.
The show’s composer Sara Bareilles (currently playing the role of “Jenna” is set to take her final bow on March 11th, 2018. Around that time between Bareilles’ departure and McPhee’s start date, Ensemble member Stephanie Torns and Swing Molly Jobe will rotate going on for “Jenna”.
Katherine McPhee is no stranger to the world of Broadway playing the naïve, green, and talented ingénue that becomes a rising star “Karen Cartwright” on NBC’s short lived SMASH. On the series, McPhee’s character we all know starts in the pre-Broadway run of the Marilyn Monroe musical BOMBSHELL before jumping into her official Broadway debut in the smash hit Pop/Rock opera HIT LIST.
