People within the Broadway community are continuing to expand their creativity making their own original art to share with the world during this ongoing time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of them have gone on to make their own music independently.
Broadway veterans and real life married couple Eryn Murman (Broadway's original production of Spring Awakening) and Jason Hite (Broadway's American Psycho and Off Broadway's Bare The Musical) are ringing in THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR with their folk, indie, pop, rock, and funky group called 5j Barrow….. releasing their first ever Holiday EP!!! The new EP entitled SEASON OF LIGHT will be released on December 4th, 2020. You can expect some new renditions of familiar holiday tunes along with new original songs.
5J BARROW is heading into their 10th Anniversary!!!! Following performing as the leads in San Jose Repertory Theatre's production of SPRING AWAKEKNING and performing in various readings and workshops of new works heading for the stage, Eryn Murman and Jason Hite decided to form their own band. Inspired by the Village vibe of New York City and named after their first major apartment on Barrow Street, 5J BARROW was born. They've performed in several small NYC clubs including Rockwood Music Hall, Feinstein’s/54 Below, and The Greene Space at WNYC/WQXR (where they were named BEST BAND IN NY OF 2014). The group also rotates from a Duo (with just Murman and Hite) along with being a trio (featuring Drew Jones on the bass) and a Quartet (with Gerard Canonico on the drums).
The band released their debut album FROM THE DIM, SWEET LIGHT in the Summer of 2014 as a Kickstarter campaign. Over 200 pledgers helped raise $13,507 to make the album a reality along with a US Tour in small venues across North America. They later released a 3 part EP series entitled THE JOURNEY. PART 1 was released in 2017, PART 2 came in 2018, and PART 3 debuted in 2019.
Murman and Hite are currently residing in Asheville, NC during this ongoing time of the COVID-19 pandemic alongside their soon-to-be 1 year old son Mathias Murman Hite. While in Quarantine, they continued to present weekly 5J BARROW Live Shows on their social media pages (both on Facebook and Instagram). The virtual concerts are mainly held at their current North Carolina home.
With the ongoing support of their future, 5J BARROW have to continued to have fundraising through Patreon. They plan to record more music and tour while raising their own when the world does go back to normal.
