LET’S GO CRAZY! A new stage musical adaptation of the legendary romantic rock musical Purple Rain is officially heading for Broadway this Spring 2027.
Directed by Tony Award nominee Saheem Ali (Buena Vista Social Club) and choreographed by Emmy winner Ebony Williams, the new musical featuring the songs of Prince will be coming to Broadway’s Majestic Theatre. Previews begin March 12th, 2027 and will open on April 12th, 2026.
For those not familiar, PURPLE RAIN tells the story of a rising musician from Minneapolis, in the epic battle through a toxic home life, a bitter professional rivalry, and a turbulent romance. It includes many of Prince’s greatest hits including WHEN DOVES CRY, THE BEAUTIFUL ONES, LET’S GO CRAZY, and of course the beloved title song. This stage version will feature an entire new book by Peter Duchan (Dogfight)
PURPLE RAIN had a really long development journey to the Musical Theater stage via staged development readings and workshop labs. It had previously had an out-of-town tryout in Minneapolis, MN at the State Theater last year. Early reviews were mixed but had been going through various changes within the book and direction. Now it’s coming to the Big Apple.
