BREAKING NEWS: We DREAM OF YOU Broadway and now you're slowly making your way back UP. It has just been announced that the groundbreaking new musical Sing Street is aiming to officially start its long awaited Broadway run. According to the producers, the show (based on the 2016 cult musical film of the same name) is expecting to start either in the Winter of 2021 or somewhere in 2022. No word has been said if the musical will still be playing Broadway's Lyceum Theatre or will transfer to another Shubert Organization house.

In case anyone may not be familiar or remember what SING STREET is all about, the story is set in Dublin, Ireland in the year 1982. It centers on a 16 year old boy named "Conor" who is forced to move to an intense, no nonsense, and super strict school. While dealing with the hostile environment of the new school (featuring inane rules, fascist teacher-priests and bullies), he is smitten by a beautiful girl named "Raphina". To impress her, he meets a bunch of new friends and start a band. It's based on the 2016 film of the same name featuring a score by Gary Clark and John Carney (who wrote the original film) and an updated book by Tony winner Enda Walsh (Once the Musical). Notable songs include UP, ROLE OF THE MODEL, DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT, and GO NOW.

SING STREET was first well received with a sold out run Off Broadway at the New York Theatre Workshop last year. It earned such a huge following, the production was set to transfer to Broadway. However, the show was abruptly shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic which caused all of Live Theater to shutdown. At the time of the shutdown, the entire company just moved into the Lyceum Theatre to start their tech rehearsals. The initial Broadway previews were set to begin on March 26th, 2020 and the official Opening Night was initially set for April 19th, 2020.

Under the direction of Tony Award winner Rebecca Taichman (Indecent) and choreographed by Sonya Tayeh (Jagged Little Pill and Moulin Rouge), the cast was set to be led by….

newcomer Brenock O'Connor as "Conor",

newcomer Zara Devlin as "Raphina",

newcomer Max Bartos as "Darren",

newcomer Brendan C. Callahan as "Gary",

Billy Carter (Broadway's A Moon for the Misbegotten and The 39 Steps) as "Robert",

newcomer Jakeim Hart as Larry,

Broadway veteran Martin Moran (Broadway's WICKED, Cabaret, Titanic, and the pre-Broadway run of The Prom) as "Brother Baxter",

Broadway veteran Anne L. Nathan (Broadway's Thoroughly Modern Millie and Once) as "Sandra",

Johnny Newcomb (Broadway's The Last Ship) as "Barry",

newcomer Gian Perez as "Kevin",

Sam Poon (Broadway's Lincoln Center Theater revival of The King and I) as "Eamon",

Skyler Volpe (Off Broadway's The Hello Girls) as "Anne",

Amy Warren (Broadway's Act One) as "Penny",

and more.

No word has been said as well if this cast will all be continuing with SING STREET's journey to Broadway.
