WHAT?S HAPPENING BROADWAY FANS?! Today is an exciting day because we are finding out the nomination for The 72nd Annual Tony Awards just 40 days away. In honor of this day up till June 10th, we at New York Broadway Tours are pleased to once again present our annual Tony Awards countdown playing you the best performances past and present. This time, we are doing it as a TOP 40 TONY AWARDS COUNTDOWN. Let?s get started!!!
Kicking off the NEW YORK BROADWAY TOURS TOP 40 TONY AWARDS COUNTDOWN, we wanted to start with an ultimate Broadway toe tapping production at # 40. This particular show is a unique revue that takes you into the life of African American history told entirely through rhythm, blues, jazz, rap, and precision tap dancing. We are talking about Bring in da noise, bring in da funk. The musical was conceived and directed by Tony Award winner George C. Wolfe, and a full team that included book by Red. E. Gaines (who also starred in the cast), a score by Wolfe, Gaines, Daryl Waters, Zane Mark, and Ann Duquesnay (who also starred in the cast), and choreography by acclaimed Award winning dancer Savion Glover (who also starred in the cast).
From the 1996 telecast, Glover, Gaines, and Duquesnay along with Jeffrey Wright, Dul? Hill, and the full company perform a toe tapping medley of TAXI and the show?s title song.
BRING IN ?DA NOISE, BRING IN ?DA FUNK was originally was developed in the early 90?s. It had it?s official world premiere Off Broadway at The Public Theater in the Fall of 1995. The Off Broadway run earned rave reviews and got so much attention, it was transferred to Broadway?s Ambassador Theatre in the Spring of 1996 where it played a complete total of 1,150 regular performances. Following its Broadway run, the show embarked on a National Tour featuring Savion Glover.
The show was nominated for 9 Tonys back in 1996 including Best Musical. It won 4 including Best Choreography (for Savion Glover) and Best Direction of a Musical (for George C. Wolfe).
Is this a great to kick off a TOP 40 countdown?
