ATENCION! Broadway veteran Doreen Montalvo passed away today at the age of 56 due to a sudden stroke she experienced earlier this month.
Montalvo was well known for appearing in the original cast of Lin-Manuel Miranda's breakout debut musical In The Heights. She was part of the Ensemble (featured as the "Bolero Singer") plus understudied the roles of "Abuela Claudia, "Daniella", and "Camila Rosario". She also appeared in the original cast of ON YOUR FEET as part of the Ensemble plus understudied and later took over the role of "Gloria Fajardo" fulltime. Other notable credits include the Off Broadway shows Giant at The Public Theater and the National Tour of Flashdance.
Prior before the COVID-19 pandemic, Montalvo recently appeared in the new musical Mrs. Doubtfire as "Janet Lundy". She was part of the production's World Premiere run in Seattle and was just starting the Broadway run. The show only ran for 3 previews before all of Live Theater was abruptly forced to shutdown.
