Last night, an unbelievable experience officially opened to keep the spirit of Broadway alive on it's road to reopening in 2021… the all new BROADWAY AT THE DRIVE IN series at Radial Park's Halletts Point Play in Astoria Queens. Kicking it off now till October 11th, 2020 (every Wednesday-Sunday nights) will be a unique screening of the legendary 25th Anniversary concert presentation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera.

It's unique because not only you're watching the iconic production recorded in 2011 at London's Royal Albert Hall (led by Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess), it also combines an actual LIVE PERFORMANCE while the film is running. Accompanied by an 11 piece orchestra, the orchestra plays along in sync to the movie LIVE. In addition, several parts of the songs being sung on the screen are replaced by 2 real LIVE singers taking over. During several of the notable songs including THINK OF ME, the title song itself THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, MUSIC OF THE NIGHT, and WISHING YOU WERE SOMEHOW HERE AGAIN, they are performed by alumni PHANTOM cast members themselves….

Derrick Davis (who recently played the title role on the US National Tour)

and

Ali Ewoldt (who made history as the first Asian-American actress ever to play the role of "Christine Daae" on Broadway and also played the part for the New York production's 30th Anniversary).

With it being a DRIVE-IN THEATER experience, there will be some strict safety procedures since we are still coping with the horrific COVID-19 pandemic. Guests will be able to enjoy the interactive, theatrical show from the safety of their own vehicles or via reserved picnic tables (close to the screen and stage), with a retro boombox for audio, spaced appropriately for social distancing, are available for those who prefer biking, walking, or taking the ferry to Halletts Point Play.

Ice-cold beverages and movie theater snacks will be available for purchase along with multiple food trucks with on-site dining options.

Following the requirements of government and health officials, Radial Park will implement strict health and safety protocols including temperature checks upon arrival via an infrared, touchless thermometer; color-coded wristbands for social distancing; "lifeguards" on duty who will be ready to blow the whistle to enforce strict social distancing; and more.

Along with PHANTOM, there will also be a late night showing of Prince's legendary 1984 film Purple Rain. Live performers for that film / live concert experience will be announced soon.

More additional Movie Musicals Casts will be revealed as well

As for the actual legendary Long Running smash hit that is THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, the show is expecting to be one of the many Live Theater shows returning in 2021 including Broadway at the Majestic Theatre, in London's West End at Her Majesty's Theatre, and ongoing International productions everywhere.
