BREAKING NEWS: Today, the Theater community lost an unbelievable talented performer by the name of Merwin Foard. He was best known for appearing in the Ensemble for many Broadway shows but was the best known for serving majority of his career as a Standby and Understudies for some of the greatest performers on the Great White Way. Some of his notable performances include playing….

Standby and later replacing Tony winner Brian Stokes Mitchell as "Fred Graham" / "Petruchio" in the 1999 revival of KISS ME KATE,

Understudying and later replacing Tony winner Shuler Hensley as "Jud Fry" in the 2002 revival of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s OKLAHOMA!,

Standby for Tony winner Michael Ceveris in the titular role of the 2005 revival of Sweeney Todd NYC,

Understudy for Tony nominee Norm Lewis as "King Triton" in The Little Mermaid,

Standby for Tony winner Nathan Lane as "Gomez Addams" in The Addams Family Musical,

Standby for Anthony Warlow as "Oliver Warbucks" in the 2012 revival of Annie,

and last seen as standby for Jonathan Freeman as the wicked "Jafar" in the original cast of Disney's Aladdin – The Musical.

With being in the chorus of numerous Broadway shows, Foard is a 2 time recipient of receiving THE LEGACY ROBE (formerly THE GYPSY ROBE) honoring a talent of an original Broadway cast with the most Broadway credits…. both for the 2004 revival of ASSASINS and the 2012 revival of ANNIE.

His life as a standby was also captured in the acclaimed 2012 documentary THE STANDBYS.

No word has been said on how he passed.

He will be missed and what a mark he made on Broadway!!! RIP Merwin. Bravo.
