BREAKING NEWS: The 12th Annual Broadway Backwards concert has been announced for March 13th, 2017 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (home of Kinky Boots on Broadway).
The concert which is a benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center features some of your favorite Broadway performers singing some of your favorite Broadway songs sung by opposite genders (with Guys singing Girls songs, Girls singing Guy songs).
No word has been announced yet who is expecting to perform. Who is excited?
HAPPY NATIONAL SWING DAY! This day was created by Actors’ Equity Association last year honoring past and present “Swing” actors working in the Theatre.
For those who may not know, a Swing in the Theatre World is an understudy for Ensemble members. They usual go on a lot whether the main Ensemble member they are covering is going on for a principal role (if the main lead is out), if someone get’s sick, or if someone goes on vacation. They have to learn different vocal ranges and dance steps that the usual Ensemble members do every night 8 times a week. Some swings also do cover some of the Principal roles as well.
We at New York Broadway Tours give Swing actors so much credit having to learn all the chorus parts really fast and go on at a moment’s notice.
