With keeping Broadway fans entertained during this horrific time of COVID-19, The Great Comet's creator Dave Malloy took to social media releasing a full length recording of his acclaimed immersive Off Broadway show GHOST QUARTET. The recording is a 2015 performance during the show's Off Broadway run at The McKittrick Hotel here in NYC. It features it's original cast led by Dave Malloy himself along with Brent Arnold, and THE GREAT COMET favorites Brittain Ashford and Gelsey Bell.
For those who never heard of GHOST QUARTET, it's a chamber musical that tells four interwoven stories: "a warped fairy tale about two sisters, a treehouse astronomer and a lazy evil bear; a retelling of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher"; a purgatorial intermezzo about Scheherazade and the ghost of Thelonious Monk; and a contemporary fable about a subway murder." The music is easy listening, jazz, and folk enrolled into one story.
GHOST QUARTET originally premiered in Brooklyn at The Bushwick Starr in 2014 before transfering and fully remounted at the McKittrick Hotel the following year running for a sold out 5 month run. Following Off Broadway run, the musical toured all across New York State including Mt. Tremper Arts in Mt. Tremper NY. It was also performed at Club Oberon at American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, MA, the Curran Theatre in San Francisco, and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland.
Following its mini tour, the show made its way back to Manhattan playing a month long run at the New York Theatre Workshop in the Fall of 2017 following the triumphant success of THE GREAT COMET. During its NYBT run, it made history becoming the inagural show of the Theater's Next Door at NYTW series.
It later went on to be performed in Chicago, Australia, Canada, and this past year in London.
How amazing is this show?!!
The song cycle was presented in an immersive 2015 Off-Broadway production.
