BREAKING NEWS: According to an interview preparing for her upcoming acoustic solo show at The Green Room 42, it has been announced that Broadway favorite Eden Espinosa will be continuing her journey with the new original musical LEMPICKA. The WICKED, Brooklyn, and RENT favorite will be part of the show's previously announced World Premiere run in La Jolla, California at La Jolla Playhouse coming this Spring 2020 for a limited engagement before the show officially heads to Broadway. Dates for the start of the La Jolla or Broadway engagements have been announced yet.
Espinosa's journey with playing the titular role in LEMPICKA began in 2018 with the show's world premiere run at the Williamstown Theatre Festival along with the recent NYC lab.
For those who may not know, LEMPICKA tells the story of the acclaimed Polish painter Tamara de Lempicka. It follows her journey as she flees Russia after the Revolution and survives Nazi-occupied Paris by taking up painting. Along the way during her time in Paris, Lempicka meets and falls in love with a free-spirited prostitute and is torn between the happy life she cherishes with her husband and daughter along with the passion, ambition, and possibility awoken in her by her new muse. The show features an original score by Matt Gould along with lyrics and book by Carson Kreitzer. The show will be directed by the Tony winning director of Hadestown and The Great Comet herself Rachel Chavkin.
