BREAKING NEWS: Heidi Schreck's Tony nominated autobiographical play What the Constitution Means to Me is officially coming to Amazon Prime Video. It will be available starting October 16th, 2020. Under the wdirection of Mirelle Heller (the Oscar nominated film A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood), this performance was recorded during its final week on the Great Bright Way at the Helen Hayes Theatre.

In case anyone may not know, WHAT THE CONSTITITION MEANS TO ME centers on Heidi Schreck's life earning her college tuition money by winning Constitutional debate competitions across the United States. It also resurrects her teenage self in order to trace the profound relationship between four generations of women in BOTH her own family and the founding document that dictated their rights and citizenship. It deals with themes of women's rights, immigration, and domestic abuse.

The play originally debuted in 2017 at Wild Project's Clubbed Thumb's festival for new plays festival. Heidi Schreck herself was contracted by True Love Productions in their new play commissioning program, writing it for her submission. From there, the show went on to play the Berkeley Repertory Theatre in Berkeley, California before moving its way OFF-Broadway for a run at New York Theatre Workshop and The Greenwich House Theater. Both Off-Broadway engagements were well received with multiple extension.

From there, WHAT THE CONSTITITION MEANS TO ME moved to Broadway's Helen Hayes Theatre for a strictly limited engagement of 20 previews and 164 regular performances. It's directed by Olivier Butler.

It was nominated for 2 Tony Awards in 2019 BOTH for BEST PLAY and BEST LEADING ACTRESS IN A PLAY. However, it lost both its categories.
