I SEE A BRAND NEW YOU heading for the big screen!!! It has officially been announced that official details of filming and casting auditions are underway for Netflix's previously announced film adaptation of Tony winner Jason Robert Brown's 13 The Musical. According to this casting notice, they looking for fresh new talent for the following roles….

Archie (originated on stage by Aaron Simon Gross) – a 13 year old crippled Middle School Student. He walks on crutches since he suffers from muscular dystrophy, a “terminal illness.” He's best friends with "Patrice" (the female lead) and eventually the musical's main central character of "Evan Goldman" (who tries to hook him up with the popular cheerleader "Kendra")

and

the Full Ensemble Cast.

They're seeking all 12-16 years old to play 13 year old Middle School Students.

The film will be shot in Toronto, Canada. Rehearsals begin in March 2021 and shooting starts in June 2021.

Directed by Tamra Davis (well known for her work on the films Billy Madison, Half Baked, and Crossroads).

Produced by Oscar winner and Emmy nominee Neil Meron (The film version of Chicago along with Smash and many of NBC's acclaimed Live TV Musicals),

the notable Jason Robert Brown score,

and

a script by Tony winner Robert Horn (Tootsie).

13 is the coming of age musical comedy. It centers on 12 year old "Evan Goldman" who moves to a small-town in Indiana from New York City following his parents divorce. There, he struggles to live a new normal in Indiana, trying to prepare for his impending Bar Mitzvah, and navigates the complicated social life of a new school. The show was best known as the ONLY Broadway Musical to feature a full cast and band of all Teenagers. The show features some notable songs including the titular song, THE LAMEST PLACE IN THE WORD, GET ME WHAT I NEED, WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A FRIEND, BAD NEWS, A LITTLE MORE HOMEWORK, BRAND NEW YOU, and more.

The show originally premiered in Los Angeles, California back in 2007 at The Mark Taper Forum. A year later in 2008, the production went on to the East Coast playing Goodspeed Musicals at the Norma Terris Theatre in Chester, Connecticut. It was well received by critics and audiences everywhere, the show made its route to Broadway in the Fall 2008. The Broadway production played the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre for 22 previews and 105 regular performances. Under the direction of Jeremy Sams and choreography by Tony winner Christopher Gattelli, the cast featured a lineup of all newcomers who have all gone on to rising worldwide careers consisting of….

The original Broadway production was snubbed from the Tony Awards in 2009. However, it went on to receive a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Lyrics (for Jason Robert Brown).

13 today is a popular show performed in schools and community theaters everywhere. It's also been performed in Regional Theaters across North America and around the world.
