THRILLIFYING NEWS: WICKED's first British Green Girl Kerry Ellis is ringing in the holiday season with her new Christmas single ONE BEAUTIFUL CHRISTMAS DAY. This new original holiday song is a collaboration with her longtime friend, collaborator, and mentor the legendary guitarist from Queen himself Brian May.
Kerry Ellis and Brian May have been collaborating together since 2000. After discovering Ellis following her performance covering "Eliza Doolittle" in My Fair Lady, May got her to audition for his original Queen jukebox musical We Will Rock You. Ellis was cast originating the role of "Meat" bringing down the house every night singing the powerful Queen ballad NO ONE BUT YOU (ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG). Together, they built a strong friendship.
As Ellis' career took off even higher when she was cast as "Elphaba" in the West End production of Wicked (originally serving as Idina Menzel's standby turned Fulltime replacement), she got offered a record deal. Together with Brian May, they released a 3 track EP entitled WICKED IN ROCK (featuring 2 songs from WICKED and 1 from WE WILL ROCK YOU performed a full rock band and 60 piece orchestra). The 3 tracks from that debut EP would later make its way to Ellis' acclaimed 2010 debut solo album ANTHEMS (featuring a mix of Musical Theater favorites along with Pop/Rock covers, and original songs) which went on to debut on the UK Album Charts at # 15.
With the success of the ANTHEMS album, Ellis & May took off on a sold out UK concert tour in 2011 (which included a sold out Opening Night at London's Royal Albert Hall). Following the ANTHEMS Tour, Ellis & May continued collaborating with their year long intimate acoustic concert tour entitled BORN FREE traveling both across the UK & later on in Italy. THE BORN FREE TOUR also served as a benefit to raise awareness for the Born Free Foundation (in support of protecting Wild Animals and their Natural Habitats). Several songs from the tour would later be part of Ellis & May's 2nd collaboration album GOLDEN DAYS which was released in 2017. It was well received by critics.
Today, Kerry Ellis and Brian May are still recording and doing concerts everywhere.
How amazing was that?!!!
