Get ready to go SHAKIN' THE BLUES AWAY!! The BROADWAY'S BEST series on Great Performances part of the PBS Arts Fall Festival continues this Friday with an encore presentation of Roundabout Theatre Company's acclaimed production of Irving Berlin's smash hit HOLIDAY INN.
Filmed from the stage of the legendary Studio 54 and marking the show's Broadway debut, HOLIDAY INN is a stage adaptation of the 1942 film of the same name. Set in 1946, it tells the story of 3 friends in a successful dance trio. "Jim Hardy", one of the dancers has officially retired from show business settling on his small Connecticut farm. However, he realizes how lonely it is without a little bit of song and dance. Along the way, he meets a local schoolteacher with incredible talents who inspires him turning the farm into a spectacular Inn where they put on different shows in celebration of each holiday. The musical features some of the most iconic and beloved Irving Berlin songs we all know in love including BLUE SKIES, CHEECK TO CHEECK, IT'S A LOVELY DAY TODAY, EASTER PARADE, LET'S SAY IT WITH FIRECRACKERS, and even the classic WHITE CHRISTMAS. Along with the Irving Berlin songbook, it features a book by Gordon Greenberg and Chad Hodge.

HOLIDAY INN was first concieved as a stage musical in 2013 by Chris Herzberger (executive at Live Theatricals at Universal Stage Productions who fell in love with the original 1942 Paramount film of the same name. He believed the story is timeless and it showcasing majority of Irving Berlin's greatest standards combined.

With 2 triumphant World Premiere Regional runs, HOLIDAY INN made its way to our New York City backyard on the Great Bright Way in 2016. It played Studio 54 for 38 previews and 117 regular performances. It was well received by Theater critics and Audiences everywhere.
This filmed performance that will air this Friday night on PBS, it also became the 2nd ON BROADWAY to be livestreamed while it was still running via BroadwayHD.
Despite doing well, the production only received 1 Tony nomination in 2017 for BEST CHOREOGRAPHY (for Dennis Jones). However, it sadly lost the category.
With the success of its Broadway run, HOLIDAY INN has continued to spread BLUE SKIES everywhere with productions in schools, community, and Regional Theaters.
