Broadway's longest running show The Phantom of the Opera is not only still playing to packed houses on Broadway, in London's West End, and around the world with its critically acclaimed iconic original staging (from Hal Prince). In addition, Schools, community, and Regional Theaters everywhere are also putting on their own staging of the iconic musical.

This weekend, students from the HB APA – Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts in Orange County, California performed their production of PHANTOM. Following their closing performance, the company and the audience were treated to a very special surprise guest in the audience…. The legendary, the one and only, and the original "Phantom" himself Michael Crawford. He came up on stage for a speech shared some memories of doing the show in London, on Broadway, and LA, and even sang a little for the audience.

In addition to Crawford, veteran Broadway and LA company cast members Dale Kristien (who originated "Christine" in the LA company) and Natasha MacAller also appeared in the audience.

How awesome is this? Maybe one day these students will get to reprise this iconic show on the stage of either London's Her Majesty's Theatre or Broadway's Majestic Theatre.
