Carousel and SpongeBob SquarePants Top List of 2018 Drama Desk Award Nominees

Congrats to all of this year’s nominees for this year’s Drama Desk Awards.

For those who may not know, the Drama Desk Awards are considered as the Golden Globes for Theatre honoring the best of Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off Broadway artists. They are voted for each year by theater critics, journalists, editors, and publishers that cover New York theater news.

Many of this years shows have been nominated (including Mean Girls on Broadway, Angels in America on Broadway, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child NYC, Venus, Frozen on Broadway , SpongeBob Broadway, Carousel on Broadway, My Fair Lady on Broadway, People, Places & Things, 1984, Who’s Holiday, Once On This Island Broadway, and more)

This year’s 63rd Annual Drama Desk Awards are set for June 3rd, 2018 at The Town Hall. It will once again be hosted (for the 3rd time in a row) by the star of the upcoming revival of Harvey Fierstein’s Torch Song on Broadway himself Michael Urie.

Lindsay Mendez Is Carrie Pipperidge in Carousel; John Douglas Thompson Also Joins Cast


BREAKING NEWS: Broadway powerhouse Lindsay Mendez (10th Anniversary “Elphaba” in Broadway’s WICKED The Musical and recently in Significant Other on Broadway) and Tony nominee John Douglas Thompson (recently in Broadway’s Jitney) have been tapped to join the cast of the upcoming revival of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel on Broadway.

Mendez will take on the role of the beloved millworker and BFF “Carrie Pipperidge” which was initially supposed to be played by her former Everyday Rapture co-star Betsy Wolfe (who dropped out due to a scheduling conflict).

Thompson will take on the role of the afterlife “Starkeeper”.

Mendez and Thompson will join an exciting all-star lineup in this new production of one of the most intense and romantic musicals ever written for the American Musical stage. This cast as previously announced will star…

Tony nominee (and friend of NYBT’s founder and head tour guide Amada Anderson) Joshua Henry making Broadway history as the first African American actor to play iconic lead role of “Billy Bigelow”,

Amar Ramasar as “Jigger”,

The new Broadway revival of Carousel will be coming to Broadway’s Imperial Theatre. Previews begin February 28th, 2018 and opening night set for April 12th, 2018.

Breaking: Betsy Wolfe Departs CAROUSEL Due to Scheduling Difficulties


BREAKING NEWS: Due to a scheduling conflict, Betsy Wolfe has dropped out of the revival of Carousel on Broadway. No word has been announced on who will replace Wolfe (currently starring as “Jenna” in Waitress the Musical) in the iconic role of “Carrie Pipperidge”. So sad for Betsy.

The revival of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel will play Broadway’s Imperial Theatre. Previews begin on February 28th, 2018 and Opening Night set for April 12th, 2018.

Tickets for the upoming revival of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel on Broadway (starring Jessie Mueller, Joshua Henry, and Renee fleming) is available on sale online now. The Imperial Theatre Box Office opens on January 2nd, 2018.

The show itself begins previews on February 28th, 2018 and Opening set for April 12th, 2018.
