A Live ‘Little Mermaid’ Musical Is Coming To ABC

All the major channels are starting to bring back live televised presentations of classic Musicals. First NBC, then FOX, and now ABC Television Network is joining the lineup. Coming October 3rd, ABC will be presenting Disney’s Oscar winning smash hit The Little Mermaid Live.

It will be part of the channel’s THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY series. The production is expecting to feature the beloved songs we all know by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman (including PART OF YOUR WORLD and the Oscar winning original song UNDER THE SEA) plus a very exciting visual presentation.

THE LITTLE MERMAID wowed audiences on the screen originally in 1989. It won 2 Oscars for Best Score and Best Song (for UNDER THE SEA). Following the success of the film, a Broadway staged musical adaptation came 18 years later. It premiered on Broadway at the Lunt Fontanne Theatre in 2007 running for 735 performances. The Broadway cast starred Sierra Boggess Official in her Broadway debut (and later Chelsea Morgan Stock) as “Ariel”, Sean Palmer (later Drew Seeley) as “Prince Eric”, Tony nominee Sherie Rene Scott (later Heidi Blickenstaff and Faith Prince) as “Ursula, the evil Sea Witch”, Tony nominee Norm Lewis as “King Triton, and more. It was nominated for only 2 Tony Awards in 2008 including Best Score but lost both categories. Productions are going on worldwide in schools, regional theatres, and around the world.

Are you excited?!!
