A lot of predictions are underway for the upcoming virtual edition of The 2020 Tony Awards. As we know, the 2019-2020 Broadway season was abruptly cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, the Tony voting committee have been doing meetings to discuss plans for which shows will be eligible for a nomination. The cut-off eligibility date has been February 19th, 2020.

Sadly despite being open before the COVID-19 pandemic, Girl From The North Country and the current abridged revival of West Side Story are not eligible for nominations. The only 4 musicals that opened during this short-lived season that will most likely be nominated are Moulin Rouge, Jagged Little Pill, Tina, and The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical.

With WEST SIDE STORY not eligible, there will sadly be no BEST REVIVAL OF A MUSICAL category.

There are also only 2 candidates for BEST LEADING ACTOR IN A MUSICAL this year…..Aaron Tveit (for Moulin Rouge) and Chris McCarrell (for The Lightning Thief).

There will only be 4 candidates for BEST LEADING ACTRESS IN A MUSICAL this year…. Karen Olivo (for Moulin Rouge), Elizabeth Stanley (for Jagged Little Pill), Adrienne Warren (for Tina), and Kristin Stokes (for The Lightning Thief).

See the full prediction list below.

Broadway's Biggest Night…. The 74th Annual Tony Awards will be happening virtually this year instead of its usual formal event at New York's famed Radio City Music Hall. No official word on nominations, the date of the virtual ceremony, or plans on how the ceremony will work out has been revealed yet. Stay tuned.

YES, once we figure out all the key details, we will share below. We're also planning to still do our Tony Awards countdown extravaganza that we would generally do in June once we know the time gap between the announcement being revealed and the ceremony actually happening. Stay tuned.
