Get ready to WISH YOU HAD A RIVER SO LONG!!! It has just been announced that a musical about the life of iconic singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell is officially in the works. Under the direction of Mitchell Walker, JONI THE MUSICAL will go through an early development industrial reading this Spring 2021.
The reading itself will be led by Christy Altomare (Broadway's Anastasia) starring as the titular role of "Joni Mitchell" (who also Altomare idolized growing up in her life as a singer/songwriter growing up).
JONI THE MUSICAL is loosely based off of the biography RECKLESS DAUGHTER: A PORTRAIT OF JONI MITCHELL. It will the journey of Mitchell's rise to fame from playing Cowboys and Indians with the boys and overcoming polio at age 9, to Joni in her 50's. The bulk of the show centers on her years in between filled with frenetic relationships and a free-for-all lifestyle that includes relationships with James Taylor, Graham Nash, Chuck Mitchell and an "out-of-this-world" encounter with Miles Davis. It will feature many of her notable hits including CIRCLE GAME, RIVER, BOTH SIDES NOW, BIG YELLOW TAXI, and more. It will also include songs by Crosby, Stills, and Nash (including their famous OUR HOUSE), Cass Elliot, and James Taylor.

Christy Altomare has joined the developmental reading of Joni: The Musical as the title role. The full-length musical by playwright Georgeta Rae, is a tribute to the music and essence of Joni Mitchell; recounting the tumultuous life of folk musica??s most feisty icon.
