Yesterday, Netflix released the brand new musical series Hollywood Arts, which is the spin-off to the Nickelodeon series Victorious. Both series stars Daniella Monet. In HOLLYWOOD ARTS, she reprises her VICTORIOUS of self-absorbed, vain, spoiled, determined, show off star “Trina Vega”, which she earned critical praise.

Fans who saw the original VICTORIOUS may known Monet’s character for a standout moment that has become a cult classic. In an early Season 1 episode, the character of “Trina” stages her self titled produced one woman show….. appropriately entitled TRINA, about a woman who moves to Chicago to chase her dreams, but is paralyzed along the way re-learning how to walk. The character’s one woman show is famously well known for its catchy opening number entitled CHICAGO. This upbeat and dramatic track even has some references to Lake Michigan and showcasing “Trina Vega”, known for her signature unearned confidence as a “diva-in-training”.

The song CHICAGO itself has become a platform on social media sites including Instagram and TikTok, where VICTORIOUS and Daniella Monet fans joke that they cannot read or hear the world Chicago without thinking of that number….. notably when “Trina Vega” famously calls it SHE-CAGO!! Those lyrics itself in that number have become so campy to this day. Later on Daniella Monet fans have even petitioned for her to step into the role of “Roxie Hart” in the long running revival of Chicago on Broadway, since both “Trina” and “Roxie” are known for their hyper over the top personalities.

Coincidentally, Monet earlier this past Spring after wrapping HOLLYWOOD ARTS, was given an offer to audition to play “Roxie Hart” in CHICAGO on Broadway. On her social media account, Monet documented the journey of preparing and traveling trip to NYC to audition for it.

However, the casting team decided a NO for now but we never know. They’ll still remember her and will probably time her as “Roxie” with a later cast. This shows you that as actors, we get rejected but it’s not the end. The power of persistence and to keep going. Never let those rejections stop you.

Who would want to see Daniella Monet bring the old RAZZLE DAZZLE 8 times a week at THE COOK COUNTY JAIL one day?!
