FLASHBACK FRIDAY: In 1996, Disney Channel and ABC Television Network presented an abridged TV version of Beauty and the Beast that featured a combination of ice skating and live music. The special was entitled BEAUTY AND THE BEAST: A CONCERT ON ICE. The cast featured a lineup of Olympic and World Champion skaters skating along to the music we all know from the animated film and the Broadway musical version which was performed by veterans from the Broadway and LA productions of Beauty and the Beast.
It featured Ekaterina Gordeeva skating and Tony nominee Susan Egan singing as Belle,
Victor Petrenko skating and current Phantom James Barbour singing as The Beast,
Lloyd Eisler skating and husband of the film’s voice of Belle Paige O’Hara herself Michael Piontek singing as Gaston,
JoJo Starbuck skating and Jeanne Lehman French singing as Mrs. Potts,
Scott Hamilton skating and Tony nominee Gary Beach singing as Lumiere,
and much more.
