FLASHBACK FRIDAY: We have previously seen a 30 second commercial the Theater World did for the Post 9/11 I LOVE NEW YORK campaign. We just found the full length recording of the Broadway community coming together with their take on John Kander & Fred Ebb’s NEW YORK, NEW YORK.

During the time of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks, the Broadway community was affected and all shows that were running at the time got shut down. However a few weeks afterwards, former Mayor Rudolph gulliani and the Broadway community realized that Live Theatre is supposed to make people entertained and feel happy.

From there, Broadway veterans (including Bernadette Peters, Joel Grey, Bebe Neuwirth, Harvey Fierstein, Elaine Stritch, Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Patti LuPone, The Real Brooke Shields, and more) and costumed characters from Broadway shows running at the time (including The Producers, The Lion King – Musical, the original production of Les Mis?rables Broadway, Aida – The Musical, Cabaret the Musical, Beauty and the Beast, Rent, Contact, 42nd Street, The Music Man, The Phantom of the Opera, Chicago The Musical, Urinetown, and more) all came together to the deserted Times Square to perform their rendition of Kander and Ebb’s NEW YORK, NEW YORK for a special I LOVE NEW YORK commercial to let tourists and people who were grieving and feeling afraid at the time to still come to the Big Apple and experience a Broadway show to throw their troubles away. Tourists agreed.

How amazing does the actual full rendition sound?
