YOU OUGHTA KNOW that the upcoming table book about the creation of one of Broadway's hottest groundbreaking musicals Jagged Little Pill has been delayed. Instead of it's initial date for September 29th, 2020, the book entitled YOU LIVE, YOU LEARN will be available to order online beginning October 27th, 2020.
For a little recap on what the book is about…. YOU LIVE, YOU LEARN follows the unbelievable journey of Alanis Morissette creating her iconic Grammy winning album of the same name (which has went on to have a huge cult following) and it's road 25 years later being translated into a feature length powerful Broadway musical. Along with the story of the making of the album, you will follow the musical's journey from its early ideas, to the first readings and workshops, to its world premiere in Cambridge, MA at American Repertory Theater, and leading up to its groundbreaking OPENING NIGHT on Broadway at the Broadhurst Theatre. It will feature interviews with Morrissette, the musical's director Tony winner Diane Paulus, the high energetic powerhouse cast (led by Elizabeth Stanley, Derek Klena, Sean Alan Krill, Antonyo Award winner Celia Gooding, Kathryn Gallagher, it's rebellious showstopper Drama Desk Award winner Lauren Patten, and more) plus the full creative team.
For a reminder of the actual story of the musical, JAGGED LITTLE PILL centers on a dysfunctional suburban family whose lives collide head-on with some of the most burning issues of today. It deals with the themes of drug addiction, violence, sexual assault, pain, healing, and empowerment. It features the notable songs including ALL I REALLY WANT, HAND IN MY POCKET, IRONIC, HEAD OVER FEET, the showstopping F*** You anthem YOU OUGHTA KNOW (which gets a midshow standing ovation every night), and the beautiful moving YOU LEARN.
It's one of the many shows that is expecting to return to Broadway in 2021 when all of Live Theater resumes its 8 shows a week. We can't wait to rock out and raise those fingers high again.
