FIRST LOOK: Construction has officially begun for the $2.4 billion renovation on Broa

FIRST LOOK: Construction has officially begun for the $2.4 billion renovation on Broadway's legendary Palace Theatre. It is expecting to be complete in 2021.

For the renovation on the legendary Vaudeville turned movie turned Legitimate Broadway house, it will be raised 30 feet above street level with new retail space build right underneath.

The Palace Theater itself will have a new brand entrance on 47th street, an 80-foot-long LED marquee, plenty of space for upcoming big elaborate upcoming shows, a newly expanded lobby with twice as many public restrooms, and more. In addition, the Palace will still feature some of the iconic things that people love about it including the chandeliers and the decorative plaster balcony fascia will all be restored. The stage door will still be at its same location on 47th Street.

The last Broadway show that played the original Palace was The SpongeBob Musical which closed this past Fall 2018.
