FLASHBACK FRIDAY: Broadway at the White House

FLASHBACK FRIDAY: 1 year ago, some of Broadway’s came to Washington DC to perform for President Obama and his family with a Broadway themed concert entitled BROADWAY AT THE WHITE HOUSE. It was hosted by Glee favorites Tony and Golden Globe nominee Matthew Morrison and Tony and Emmy winner Kristin Chenoweth.

Along with the Broadway acts, several students from various Theatre companies and intensives were invited to go to the White House to do a set of Broadway themed master class during the day. During the performance, Chenoweth randomly selected Rach Levy, a 17 year old girl from Montville, New Jersey (of the Mayo Performing Arts Center – MPAC Troupe) to come up on stage and sing the “Elphaba” part in FOR GOOD from WICKED The Musical. In addition, Chenoweth and Levy were accompanied by WICKED’s legendary composer Stephen Schwartz. The duet was met with a 5 minute standing ovation from the audience (including Michelle Obama).

A few months later after the White House, Rachel got offered and performed her own solo show at Feinstein?s/54 Below, sang with Matthew Morrison, and even performed with Kristin Chenoweth again (this time along with her MPAC Troupe). Most recently, the MPAC troupe (including Levy) made their Broadway Debuts for one night only during Chenoweth’s recent 2 week MY LOVE LETTER TO BROADWAY concert stint at the Lunt Fontanne Theatre.

Rachel, you have a bright future ahead. We cannot wait to see you on Broadway performing 8 times a week. Keep up the hard work!!

Broadway super star Kristin Chenoweth and newly discovered talent, Rachel Levy, perform “For Good” from Wicked at the White House.
