Breaking: New York City Center Gala Will Tribute A CHORUS LINE; LADY IN THE DARK, I MARRIED AN ANGEL…

BREAKING NEWS: New York City Center has been playing a huge cultural role part of our New York Theater scene for the past 75 years presenting an incredible lineup of Theatre, Opera, Dance, Concerts, and more. To celebrate, the famous Theater will be presenting an exciting lineup of productions part of the 2018-2019 Theater season.

To kick the season off in celebration of the 75th Anniversary, New York City Center will be presenting a production of one our very own musicals. This show you can consider it as ONE SINGULAR SENSATION….Marvin Hamlish and Edward Kleban’s A CHORUS LINE from November 14th- 18th, 2018. The gala production of the iconic musical (about performers auditioning to be in a show) will be directed by Bob Avian (co-director of the original and the recent Broadway revival) and will feature the legendary choreography from the late Michael Bennett recreated by Baayork Lee (who created the role of “Connie” in the original 1975 Broadway production and also choreographed the recent 2006 revival),

In addition to the Gala performance, no season at City Center would be complete without its legendary ENCORES series. For those who don’t know, ENCORES is basically concert staged productions of Classic Great American Musicals that rarely has been seen on Broadway. Several productions from City Center would later go on to Broadway (including the current and long running revival of John Kander & Fred Ebb’s Chicago The Musical). Some of this year’s shows set to hit the mainstage for Encores will include…

Irving Berlin, Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse’s CALL ME MADAME (Date TBD) which was originally done for the 2nd season of Encores back in 1995,

Roger and Hart’s I MARRIED AN ANGEL (March 20- 24th, 2019) starring New York City Ballet’s Sara Mearns (Directed and choreographed by her fianc? Tony nominee Joshua Bergasse),

and Jule Styne, Sammy Cahn, and Stephen Longstreet’s HIGH BUTTON SHOES.

In addition, MasterVoices will be presenting a production of the Gershwin’s LADY IN THE DARK (April 25th – 26th, 2019) starring Tony winner Victoria Clark.

Happy 75th Anniversary City Center!!!
