HELLO BROADWAY FANS. You are once again waking up with us as our Top 30 Tony Awards countdown continues. Broadway’s Biggest night is only 3 days away.
At #3 on our countdown is actually another highly requested performance by Theatre fans and followers like you. We are about to visit a dysfunctional family with dark secrets and have their own business caring for the dead. We of course are talking about The residents of the HOUSE ON MAPLE AVENUE from last year’s Tony winning Fun Home on Broadway. It was written by Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron.
From last year’s telecast, Tony winner Michael Ceveris and Tony nominees Beth Malone and Sydney Lucas perform the showstopper RING OF KEYS. That performance went viral on YouTube and got a lot of attention especially people praising Lucas’ portrayal of the Young Allison Bechdel.
FUN HOME (based on Allison Bechdel’s life and graphic novel of the same name) was developed at the Sundance Institute Theatre lab in White Oak, NY in 2012 before Premiering OFF Broadway at The Public Theater in 2013 earning rave reviews. It moved to Broadway’s Circle in the Square last year where it continues to play to pack houses every night. The show was nominated for 12 Tony Awards at the same time winning 5 including Best Musical. In addition the show’s composer/lyricist Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron made history as the first ever female duo writing team to win for Best Original Score.
Isn’t this show a powerful, emotional, haunting, and dark?!
