BREAKING NEWS: Original Spring Awakening Broadway, Glee, and Scream Queens star Lea Michele is releasing her long awaited 2nd studio album entitled PLACES. It features some original songs inspired by Michele’s personal life. The album is set to be released within these next few months.
To gear up for the new album, Michele is doing a limited 3 intimate concerts giving her fans a sneak preview of songs from the new album as well as performing songs from her acclaimed 2014 debut album LOUDER and even from Glee. She kicked off her first show in LA at The Hotel Cafe this past Monday. Tonight she is performing here in NYC (her hometown) at The Appel Room (part of Jazz at Lincoln Center), and this upcoming Monday back in LA at the Broad Theatre.

She discovered A WHOLE NEW WORLD on Broadway making wishes come true. Award winning actress and comedian made a one night only cameo appearance in Disney’s Award winning show Aladdin – The Musical as the “Other Genie” in an improvise sketch with it’s Tony winning star James Monroe Iglehart (who is set to depart the show next month). Check out the Behind the Scenes fun of Goldberg gearing up for that one night only performance at the New Amsterdam Theatre as seen on The View.
This is not Goldberg’s first time making a Broadway cameo appearance. In 2010, she made a one night only appearance playing multiple roles in Disney’s longest running Award winning smash The Lion King – Musical. In that, she appeared as a “bird lady” (during the show’s iconic opening number CIRCLE OF LIFE), reprised her performance of “Shenzi” (which she voiced in the 1994 animated film) during a scene in the Elephant Graveyard, and even went swinging in the trees as the “Other Rafiki”. It was also shown on The View.

ON THIS DAY: 21 years ago, a rising composer genius by the name of Jonathan Larson unexpectedly died of an auric aneurysm on the same night of the very first preview performance / world premiere of what would become his groundbreaking hit musical….Rent.
The morning of his passing was nothing but emotional chaos for the cast, crew, musicians, and creative team of RENT as well as all of Jonathan’s family and friends. The first preview performance was cancelled for the public. However, the entire company of RENT brought over Jonathan’s family and friends over to the Theatre for a memorial semi-staging presentation of the show. However by the time they got to LA VIE BOHEME, the cast did remainder of the show with blocking but no costumes. All of Jonathan’s family and friends were laughing, crying, and cheering. As the show ended, the cast left the stage but then they noticed the audience was still in the Theater having a moment of silence. What broke the silence was a man crying out THANK YOU JONATHAN LARSON before erupting into another round of applause into a standing ovation.

AMELIE (based on the acclaimed Oscar nominated film) starring Tony nominee Philippa Soo is set to begin previews on March 9th 2017 and officially open on April 3rd, 2017 at the Walter Kerr Theatre. Tickets at the Box Office will be available on February 2nd, 2017.
