See the source image
So much excitement and happiness going on celebrating the triumphant comeback of our Broadway Theater scene all Fall long. The celebration truly will go into full swing tomorrow with the long awaited anticipation of the 2020-2021 edition of The Tony Awards. There seriously has been so much that we’ve missed about the community we call home in these past 18 1/2 months of being dark.
Little throwback to one of our personal favorite TV commercials from Visa sponsoring Broadway’s biggest night over the years. In promotion for the 2001 Tony Awards, this 60 second commercial was captured beautifully in black and white exploring the life of the Big Apple and our Theater backyard. There’s also a voiceover actor sharing a powerful poem on WHAT IS BROADWAY. If you listen very carefully, the words is the ultimate truth about this community we love near and dear.
We at New York Broadway Tours are so happy to celebrating this community we love’s triumphant comeback. At the same time, we are preparing to relaunch our Walking Tours later this year. We cannot wait to see all of you in person and share with you these exact words on our community that we love so much. It was a rough 18 1/2 months (and its still out there) but we’re still ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.
WELCOME HOME BROADWAY!!!!

UP, CLOSE, & PERSONAL: Karen Olivo shares life lately since announcing departure from Tony nominated performance in MOULIN ROUGE

Karen Olivo wants something better than Broadway
Tony Award winner Karen Olivo has so much more wanting to fulfil vs. being THE SPARKLING DIAMOND 8 times a week. As previously mentioned earlier this year, the Rent, Brooklyn, In The Heights, and West Side Story star is no longer in the cast of the 14 time Tony nominated smash hit Moulin Rouge. The news was revealed back in April when Olivo (who now goes by She/They pronouns) expressed the frustration and anger the lack of people in the industry’s silence on the horrific, abusive, and tyrannical behavior of former show biz producer Scott Rudin.
However, Olivo has been making the move from Broadway star to being a strong political leader in helping fight for a brighter change within the industry. Acceptance, Diversity, and taking a stand against racism, prejudice, and unacceptable work behavior. Check out what Olivo has been doing since coming out with the news of departing MOULIN ROUGE.
Olivo’s last performance of MOULIN ROUGE was back in March 2020 at the time the show and all of Live Theater was abruptly shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As of the show’s return last night, the role of “Satine” is now being played by Natalie Mendoza.
