Live Theater is back and UNSTOPPABLE! The Tony Award winning musical adaptation of the hit comedy Tootsie is set launch its long awaited US National Tour this Fall.
The production will begin October 10th, 2021 in Buffalo, NY before traveling to following cities across the United States including….
Durham, NC,
Tampa, FL,
Orlando, FL,
New Orleans, LA,
Houston, TX,
Baltimore, MD,
our nation’s capitol of Washington D.C.,
Atlanta, GA,
Tulsa, OK,

San Diego, CA,
Los Angeles, CA,
Las Vegas, NV,
and more.
For those who may not know, TOOTSIE is a musical based on the smash hit 1982 comedy film of the same name (which starred Dustin Hoffman). Set in present day, New York City, it follows struggling talented actor “Michael Dorsey” with a horrible tyrannical reputation that doesn’t book him any gigs. Because no one would hire him, he rebels and goes incognito as his new alter ego….. leading lady “Dorothy Michaels”. With his new persona being a role model for women, his world is turned upside down where he (as a woman) falls in love with his female co-star “Julie Nichols”.
The storyline is the same but set in a different area of Entertainment. In the original movie, it’s a madcap behind the scenes drama on the life of a Soap Opera. However with the musical, it’s behind the scenes in creating a Broadway Musical.
TOOTSIE THE MUSICAL features an original score by Tony winner David Yazbek and a book by Robert Horn. Songs include WHADDAYA DO, WHAT’S GONNA HAPPEN, I WON’T LET YOU DONE, UNSTOPPABLE, GONE GONE GONE, THANK YOU, and more.
The show had a set of early development labs in the Summer of 2017. It was well received, the show got to the green light to being a full scale production.
TOOTSIE had its world premiere out-of-town tryout in Chicago, IL at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in the Fall of 2018. From there, it immediately transferred to Broadway’s Marquis Theatre in the Spring of that same year running for 25 previews and 293 regular performances. Under the direction of Scott Ellis and choreographed by Dennis Jones, the cast was led by….
Santino Fontana as “Michael Dorsey”,
Lilli Cooper as “Julie Nichols”,
Sarah Stiles as “Sandy Lester”,
Andy Grotelueschen as “Jeff Slater”,
John Behlmann as “Max Van Horn”,
Julie Halston as “Rita Marshall”,
and more.
Reviews and Audience reactions were mixed. The show was also the topic of some controversy within the LGBTQ+ community calling it “Transphobic” due to the story’s themes and how it was delivered.
Despite the controversy, it would still go on to be nominated for 11 Tony Awards that same year of 2019. It took home only 2 for BEST LEADING ACTOR IN A MUSICAL (for Santino Fontana) and BEST BOOK OF A MUSICAL (for Robert Horn). It also got various nominations and Awards including from the Drama Desk and the Outer Critics Circle Awards.
The National Tour of TOOTSIE itself was initially set to debut in the Fall of 2020 with an Equity cast. It was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However several months into the pandemic, it was revealed that the Equity tour was cancelled and then several weeks later, it was revealed that the show would go on the road….. but with a Non-Equity cast. The drama stirred up anger from Equity actors and the Theater community.
Announcement for casting on the new TOOTSIE tour will be revealed soon.

Cinderella takes out a full page ad in the New York Times – is Belleville headed for Broadway | WhatsOnStage
ROYAL NEWS: Critics are raving and praising Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s new updated musical adaptation of the classic story of Cinderella which recently opened in London’s West End. Yesterday, the production was featured in a FULL PAGE ad in The New York Times.
With all of this, it’s causing some possible speculation that Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella is possibly coming to Broadway!!!! There even have been talks that it will feature its OG London leading lady Carrie Hope Fletcher make her long awaited Broadway debut as the title role.
No word has been officially revealed yet. Stay tuned. Anything is possible in BELLEVILLE.
This new adaptation is a modernized version of the classic story we all know in love with CINDERELLA…. a young girl with big dreams who is forced to work as a household servant by her jealous stepmother and stepsisters. One day, an announcement is made for a Royal Ball which the handsome Prince seeks for a bride. However, the stepmother and sisters prevent the household servant girl from attending. Luckily everything changes when the girl has her wish become a reality by her Fairy Godmother. What’s also different about this version of the story is that “Cinderella” is a bit of a rebel. It also explores very familiar what’s going on in the world today how gender relationships are rethought. Plus, it deals with the critical thematic element concerns beauty shaming. Some of the songs have already become singles including BAD CINDERELLA, SO LONG, ONLY YOU, LONLEY YOU, I KNOW HAVE A HEART, FAR TOO LATE, and more.
PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT the traditional Disney, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Gerry Culity, or the upcoming Camila Cabello version. It’s a brand new CINDERELLA!!!
This new version was originally developed through a set of readings and workshops at the Other Palace Theatre in May 2019. It was well received that the next steps were to do a full-scale production.
This new CINDERELLA was initially slated to have its premiere in the West End originally in the Summer of 2020. However, it was delayed for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite being in quarantine, the company still held continued development labs from home.
Most recently, the show finally premiered in London’s West End at the Gillian Lynne Theatre. Under the direction of Laurence Connor and choreography by JoAnn M. Hunter, the cast was is led by…
Carrie Hope Fletcher and Georgina Onuorah alternating as the title role,
Olivier nominee Victoria Hamilton-Barritt as “The Wicked Stepmother”,
Newcomer Ivano Turco as “Prince Sebastian”,
Rebecca Trehearn as “The Queen”,
Gloria Onitiri as “The Godmother”,
Laura Baldwin as stepsister “Adele”,
Georgina Castle as stepsister “Marie”,
and more.
CINDERELLA originally began previews on June 25th, 2021 under extreme COVID-19 and Delta Variant safety precautions. The show originally was performed at a limited 50% capacity. The show was slated to officially open on July 20th, 2021. However, the plug was pulled after a cast member tested positive for COVID-19. A few days later, it was revealed that the show will go on. The company took a 4 week hiatus and officially had its long awaited Opening Night on August 18th, 2021 earning RAVE reviews and now playing to a FULL CAPACITY.
Along with the production, a full concept album of the musical’s entire score was released on July 9th, 2021. It included its main cast including Fletcher, Onitri, and Turco, it featured an all-star lineup of some familiar faces appearing just for this recording including….
Helen George,
and
Webber’s ex-wife Sarah Brightman.
We know this version will be getting TONS of buzz during Awards season!! Hopefully, we can see a New York run soon.
Who is hopeful?!!!
Who is loving this new CINDERELLA?!!
