BREAKING NEWS: WICKED The Musical is set to welcome an exciting set of new cast members starting July 31st, 2017 at the Gershwin Theatre. These cast members are all NO STRANGERS to the world of the acclaimed Stephen Schwartz musical.
Long running Green Girl Jackie Burns (last seen on Broadway and recently wrapped up the National Tour starring in If/Then Musical) will reprise her acclaimed performance of the smart, fiery, and not so Wicked Witch “Elphaba”. She returns for the first time in 4 years since leaving the Broadway cast in 2013. She’s also appeared in the National Touring cast in this role.
Amanda Jane Cooper will make her Broadway Debut reprising her performance of the beautiful, blonde, and bubby “Glinda”. She recently ended her run on the show’s National Tour earlier this year.
Pop sensation Ashley Parker Angel (known from the acclaimed boy band O-Town and appeared on Broadway in Hairspray) will reprise the role of the love interest “Fiyero”. He previously played the role on the show’s National Tour in 2014.
Tony Award winner and long running cast member Rondi Reed (August Osage Country) will once again take on the role of the mysterious “Madame Morrible”. She originated the role in the 2005 sit down Chicago production and has went on to play the role on and off in the Broadway and Touring companies.
British actor Jye Frasca will make his Broadway Debut in the role of the lovable munchkin “Boq”. He was an original cast member of the West End production of Wicked UK in London where he appeared in the Ensemble and understudied “Boq” going on numerous times.
Last but not least, Kristen Martin (Spider-Man On Broadway) will be rolling in the wheelchair as the Wicked Witch of the East herself “Nessarose”. She previously appeared in this role on the show’s National Tour.
The alumni cast members joining the Broadway cast will join P.J Benjamin as “The Wizard” (a role he has played the longest on and off) and Chad Jennings as “Doctor Dillamond”.
Burns, Cooper, Angel, Reed, and Frascal will all replace Jennifer DiNoia, Kara Lindsay, Michael Campayno, Tony winner Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Zach Piser who will all take their final bows on July 30th, 2017.
Martin replaces Dawn Cantwell, who departed the show earlier this month. The role is currently alternated by Ensemble members Tess Ferrell and Hannah Shankman.

GOOD MORNING BROADWAY FANS! Broadway’s biggest night is almost here. 3 days till the 71st Annual Tony Awards and more powerhouse performances are heading your way on OUR TOP 30 TONY AWARDS COUNTDOWN.
At # 3 is another one of Broadway’s current longest running smash hit musicals. We all grew up with the iconic story of The Wizard of Oz but you know there are parts that are actually not scary. Know more about the famous witches of Oz before that house with a well known farm girl inside crashed. This is of course Stephen Schwartz’s Award winning smash hit WICKED The Musical. The show also features a book by Winnie Holzman. It’s based on a novel by Gregory macguire.
From the 2004 telecast, Tony winners Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel in their breakout performances as “Glinda: The Good Witch of the North” and “Elphaba: The Wicked Witch of the West” along with members of the original Broadway cast perform the musical’s Act 1 finale and the show’s anthem DEFYING GRAVITY.
Following a Pre-Broadway run in San Francisco, WICKED opened on Broadway at the Gershwin Theatre in 2003 (the day before Halloween). The show continues to play to packed houses 8 times a week. The show was nominated for the most 10 Tony Awards in 2004 winning only 3 including Best Leading Actress in a Musical (for Idina Menzel). That year’s Tony Awards was a big shock when Wicked lost the Best Musical award to Avenue Q (since they initially had the most nominations). It did however also went on to the win the Grammy for Best Musical Theatre album. Along with Broadway, WICKED continues to play to sold out houses across America, in London’s West End, and around the world.
Isn’t this musical spellbinding?
