Tony Award winner Karen Olivo has so much more wanting to fulfil vs. being THE SPARKLING DIAMOND 8 times a week. As previously mentioned earlier this year, the Rent, Brooklyn, In The Heights, and West Side Story star is no longer in the cast of the 14 time Tony nominated smash hit Moulin Rouge. The news was revealed back in April when Olivo (who now goes by She/They pronouns) expressed the frustration and anger the lack of people in the industry’s silence on the horrific, abusive, and tyrannical behavior of former show biz producer Scott Rudin.
However, Olivo has been making the move from Broadway star to being a strong political leader in helping fight for a brighter change within the industry. Acceptance, Diversity, and taking a stand against racism, prejudice, and unacceptable work behavior. Check out what Olivo has been doing since coming out with the news of departing MOULIN ROUGE.
Olivo’s last performance of MOULIN ROUGE was back in March 2020 at the time the show and all of Live Theater was abruptly shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As of the show’s return last night, the role of “Satine” is now being played by Natalie Mendoza.
