Michael Luwoye Sets Start Date as Hamilton?s New Title Player on Broadway

BREAKING NEWS: As previously announced Michael Luwoye is set to rejoin the Broadway company of Hamilton: An American Musical taking over the title role fulltime. His start date has been officially set for January 16th, 2018 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.

Luwoye made history with Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Award winning smash hit as the first African American actor to play the title role of “Alexander Hamilton” (aka THE 10 DOLLAR FOUNDING FATHER). He initially served as the alternate here on Broadway alongside to the show’s current Broadway leading man Javier Mu?oz and earned rave reviews. He then went on to originate the role on the show’s National Tour (where he will continue his run with the show there through the end of it’s LA engagement on December 30th, 2017).

No word on who is replacing Luwoye on the National Tour.

For the show’s current Broadway leading man Javier Mu?oz, he took to Facebook to announce his final performance as “Alexander Hamilton” on Broadway is set for January 14th, 2018. He will be missed.

King Kong Sets First Preview & Opening Date on Broadway


BREAKING NEWS: THE EIGHTH WONDER OF THE WORLD is finally hitting the Big Apple for real!!! The highly anticipated musical adaptation of King Kong officially set it’s performance start dates when it finally hits Broadway Fall 2018.

King Kong on Broadway will begin preview performances on October 5th, 2017 and Opening Night set for November 8th, 2017 at the Broadway Theatre (currently home of Miss Saigon US till January 2018 and the limited engagement Broadway concert ROCKOTOPIA this Spring 2018).

The story is set in NYC in the 1930’s where we meet an overly ambitious movie producer, his cast and full crew as they travel to the mysterious Skull Island to make a movie. On the Island, they encounter a gigantic ape who falls in love with the movie’s leading lady and eventually gets captured and taken back to the Big Apple as a huge attraction.

The show as previously mentioned will be an entire new production directed by Drew McOnie, a new book by Jack Thorne (Playwright of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child NYC hitting Broadway Spring 2018), a score by Marius de Vries (who has been with the show from the start), scenic design by Peter England, costume design by Roger Kirk, lighting design by Peter Mumford and sound design by Peter Hylenski. Gavin Robins is the aerial and movement director, and creature designer by Sonny Tilders.

KING KONG: THE MUSICAL originally premiered in Australia back in 2013 with mixed reviews. The staging got an incredible positive response. It was originally was slated to hit Broadway in 2014 at the Lyric Theatre (when it was the Foxwoods Theatre after Spider-Man On Broadway closed) but has been delayed due to trouble with revamping the book and changing of the creative team.

Mark Your Calendar! Date Set for 72nd Annual Tony Awards


BREAKING NEWS: The countdown to Broadway’s biggest night begins. It has just been announced that the 72nd Annual Tony Awards (presented by The Broadway League and American Theatre Wing) is officially set for Sunday, June 10th, 2018. The ceremony honoring the best of the Broadway season will be coming to you once again from New York City’s famed Radio City Music Hall and will be aired once again on CBS. No word has been said on who will host the Tonys this year.

In addition, the official schedule of the events leading up to the 2018 Tony Awards have seen announced

The official eligibility cut-off date for all the participating shows in the 2017-2018 Broadway season will be April 26th, 2018 with the announcement of the nominations set for May 1st, 2018.

And of course, we at New York Broadway Tours will be presenting on the 30 day mark our TOP 30 TONY AWARDS COUNTDOWN.

A Bronx Tale Star Bobby Conte Thornton Announces Final Performance Date


BREAKING NEWS: A Bronx Tale The Musical’s original leading man Bobby Conte Thornton is set to depart the smash hit musical on November 5th, 2017 at the Longacre Theatre (just 1 day after the show’s 1st Anniversary of starting previews of it’s Broadway run). No word has been made on who will take over from Thornton in the lead role of “Calogero”. Who is sad to see another talented original cast member leave?!

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Sets First Performance Date on Broadway


ALOHAMORA! The highly anticipated Broadway premiere of the Olivier Award winning smash hit Harry Potter and the Cursed Child NYC has officially announced it’s start of previews. The 2-Part play will begin preview performances on March 16th, 2018. As previously announced, Opening Night is set for April 22nd, 2018 and will play Broadway’s Lyric Theatre. Plus, majority of the original Principal actors from London will all be continuing with the show for Broadway. Who is excited?!
